Information on the process, paperwork - including health certificate, export permit and dog licence - needed when preparing your pet for travel from Singapore.
Export PermitsTo export a pet from Singapore an Export Permit from the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) must be obtained within the 30 days prior to the export date.
A valid Singapore dog licence must be presented to the Agri-food and Veterinary Authority before an export permit can be issued for a dog. It will take two days to process the completed application form. Export permits are valid for 30 days from the date of issue. A permit can be processed within less than two working days for a fee. Documentation required for travelling with a petAs requirements for importing animals vary greatly between countries, it is advisable to obtain all the necessary details from the authorities of the destination country. Alternatively, if the country has an Embassy or High Commission in Singapore, all necessary information may be obtained there. Documents needed to export pets from Singapore:
Endorsing or Converting a Health CertificateThe AVA can endorse any veterinary certificates needed to facilitate the export of pets. If the country of destination requires a government health certificate or endorsement of a health certificate by an official veterinarian, take the animal to any of the veterinary clinics in Singapore for examination and a health certificate. If the country needs the animal tested for diseases, the AVA can provide laboratory and diagnostic services at the Animal and Plant Health Centre.
Complete a General Application Form for Veterinary Certificate then submit it with the health certificate to the AVA for conversion to a government health certificate or for endorsement.
Conversion of the health certificate takes one working day to process; the endorsement of a health certificate can be done within the same day. Travelling with a PetIf the animal is travelling on the same plane as its owner, try to send it as "excess baggage" rather than as "cargo". This is generally much cheaper. Not all airlines allow this, so enquire about the airline's services and requirements well ahead of time and if possible get agreement in writing. Find out the airline's specifications for the animal's travel container. Allow time to check in as the authorities will check all documents before allowing travel.
