All utilities (electricity, gas, and water) are run by the government and there are no alternative suppliers.

Utilities Emergency Numbers

To Get Connected

A single utilities account is needed to access electricity, gas and water supplies, as well as refuse collection. Only people over the age of 21 are eligible to open a utilities account.

Signing up for a new account may be done by phone, fax, post, online or in person.

The requirements are:

• a completed application form
• a completed bank giro form
• an Identity Card (IC) (or National Registration Identity Card NRIC) number of the householder or Permanent Resident, or a copy of an Employment Pass if a foreigner

Applications made in person, by phone or online will get an appointment to be connected the next business day; applications made by post or fax will take three working days.

An initial deposit will be required.

Charges for refuse collection will also be made through the utilities account.

Electricity

Electricity is provided by Singapore Power.

Gas

Gas Services are provided by PowerGas.

For gas turn-on, call City Gas for an appointment after receiving the e-mail confirmation of the account opening.

Postal Services

Postal services in Singapore are provided by Singapore Post Pte. Ltd. (SingPost)

SingPost has more than 60 post offices, about 80 authorised postal agencies, around 200 Self-service Automated Machines (SAMs), more than 660 stamp vendors and over 800 post boxes throughout Singapore. These outlets offer a wide range of postal, telecommunication and agency services.

• Post offices are open from 08:30-17:00 on weekdays and 08:30-13:00 on Saturdays.
• Stamps can be bought at any time from coin-operated automated postal machines.

The SingPost website contains comprehensive information regarding postal matters.

The main services are:

• Mailing services
• Logistics provides domestic and international door-to-door distribution services, including express delivery services (Speedpost) and warehousing and distribution services
• Retail (cards, some stationery and packaging)
• Payment services for Government related bills, such us payment of various motoring fines
• Payment of utility bills, telephone bills, credit card bills
• Mobile phone top-up cards and mobile pay-as-you-go sign up
• Car park coupons, lamination services, stamp collections
• IMB drop off and pick up of laptop repairs
• Sending money abroad, drafts, etc.
