Teenagers clubbing?

ginnyp writes in Families & Kids

How aware are you about what your teen is up to? My 18 year old commented that he saw some of his younger sister's friends at MOS and they are 15. How safe is it here? How are clubs regulating or verifying age. It seems most of the teens have false ID. If caught what are the consequences?

I know where my teen is 24 hrs a day.... No really, do we ever know exactly where they are? I have heard stories from my daughter of girls going home at the time stipulated by their parents, only to climb out of the window as soon as said parents were asleep. Think trust is a basic ingredient of a good teen-parent relationship and it has to be earned by both sides.

Luckily for parents here, it is still relatively safe in Singapore, however do not be fooled into thinking there are no drugs and no perverts around. Teach them well and hope for the best. That is probably the best we can do.

then why not get something like gprs to tag on them?

What is that? Is it like a GPS tracker? What stops them from taking that off and leaving it in their room/bed?

I have heard of some parents here hiring a private detective to 'shadow' their kids for a while just till they were satisfied that the kids weren't up to anything not-kosher.

I have a friend who has not given her daughter a curfew, and doesn't mind her having a boyfriend or the occasional drink, i have anotehr friend who will not let her child do anything, she is not allowed to go out with her friends. I find that the one who has no curfew tends to stay at home more and just relaxes and doesn't rebel, the other rebels to an extreme.

If a parent has no trust in their child and doesn't let them do anything then the child is more likely to drink alchohol or play up.  If the child is not given so many rules, they are less inclined to do these things.
Like anyone - they want what they can't have.
