High Days and Holidays

Public holiday, bank holiday, call it what you will, long weekends like the Easter break can be a worker's beacon on the annual calendar. Some days, like the upcoming Labour Day/Workers Day holiday of May 1 are widely observed internationally; others, such as the May Vesak Day are religious and apply to several countries, while the national days are just that, uniquely national - think Singapore National Day!

State and schools

The major public holidays in Singapore reflect the cultural and religious diversity and there has been a careful distribution of days to each group.

Public holidays which fall on a Sunday are replaced by an off day on the following working day (Monday or Tuesday).
