Help from Home

Wherever you're from originally, it can be helpful to know about the people who can represent you in Singapore. Practically all countries have officials working in their embassies (which exist to present the country to the host, as it were), and also in consular services, which assist the countries' nationals visiting or living in Singapore.

Paperwork and passports

Depending on your nationality, you may find that your country's consular services can provide a great deal of help for your life in Singapore.

The US Embassy, for example, has provides news and articles relevant to Americans abroad, while the US Citizens Service website has a wealth of detailed information, which is a handy guide to many issues that crop up if you're an American in the country. The British High Commission provides useful online information catering specifically to its nationals, as do both the Australian and Canadian High Commissions. AngloINFO has an INFOrmation Page devoted to Citizen Guides for Foreigners in Singapore which can point you towards these and other resources from various consulates.

Find the contact information of your nation's consular representative in the Consulates & Embassies category of The AngloFILE. From issuing a replacement passport to assisting with the registration of a birth, you may be surprised by how much help you can get!
