Monday 17th March 2008Time Out!Public holiday, bank holiday, call it what you will, days off and long weekends such as the Easter break coming up this weekend can be a beacon on a worker's annual calendar. Singapore has eleven official national holidays over the course of a year. What's open, what's notThe major public holidays in Singapore reflect the cultural and religious diversity and there has been a careful distribution of days to each group taking in, for example, Christian festivals of Easter and Christmas, Chinese New Year, the Hindu Deepavali celebration, Buddhist Vesak Day and Muslim Hari Raya Haji festival. In Singapore, as in some other countries (notably the UK), when a public holidays falls on a Sunday it is replaced by a day off the subsequent Monday or Tuesday.
