Stranger in a Strange Land
An Embassy (headed by the Ambassador) works to represent a country in a foreign land in matters of politics and trade. The Consulate (headed by the Consul) is there to assist its visiting and relocated nationals. Your country's Consulate should be able to help with a number of practical matters concerning your life in Singapore.
What they do
Typically, the Consulate provides information and national documentation. It also deals with administrative matters such as the renewal and replacement of passports, and registration in the home country of births, marriages and deaths. Many Consulates can also provide convenient notarial services.
Worth knowing, however, is that your Consulate may also be able to help in times of distress, such as after an accident or violent assault, and direct you to appropriate legal or medical experts.
